Costume jewellery has been around for approx 300 years. Originally jewellers began creating pieces using cheaper materials such as silver and non precious stones. This revolutionised the industry as it allowed people to purchase fashionable designs which were more affordable. Costume jewellery increased in popularity in the 1920’s when Coco Chanel introduced such pieces to her collection. She felt that it would allow women to accesorise their outfits without the big price tag.
